Sustainability
Nico’s vision is to become a leading provider of nickel products by unlocking the full potential of the Wingellina Project in Australia through innovative technologies, responsible mining, environmental and heritage practices, and strategic partnerships.
We aim to deliver superior value to our stakeholders while fostering economic growth and environmental stewardship, whilst conducting our operations safely and sustainably with integrity, transparency and respect for the communities and environment in which we operate.
Nico has the unique privilege to work on the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, the home of Yarnangu People.
Our sustainability strategy is centred around the value that we can provide to the Traditional Owners, the Ngaanyatjarra People as well as the residents of the Irrunytju Community comprising Yarnangu and Pitjantjatjara People.
Key aspects of our sustainability strategy include socio-economic, cultural heritage, environment, climate change, diversity and inclusivity, health, safety and governance. The Wingellina Project is being developed under the Wingellina Project Agreement, registered as an Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) with the National Native Title Tribunal in 2011.
The Agreement details Nico’s commitments to the Traditional Owners throughout project development, project construction and project operation. Our commitments provide for job creation, contracts, community programs, compensation and provision of education and training initiatives to improve the socio-economic outcomes for the Ngaanyatjarra People.
Nico’s policies are the foundation of our governance structure. The policies are designed to promote risk management, social equality, corporate integrity and environmental responsibility, all of which are fundamental to business success.
