Environment
Our Wingellina Project is located close to the WA / SA / NT border in the Wingellina Hills, part of the Central Ranges region. The landscape is characterised by inland dune systems, spinifex grasslands and hilly ranges.
Nico acknowledges the strong and continuous connection of Yarnangu with the environment as a source of bush tucker, sacred sites, water sources, birthing and resting places, and story lines. We endeavour to recognise this connection in our consultative approach and high level of environmental responsibility. Biodiversity assessments, water stewardship,
waste management, risk mitigation, closure and rehabilitation activities are the foundation of Nico’s environmental program.
Biodiversity surveys take account of habitats, ecosystems, and species, as well as localised Yarnangu cultural heritage values and practices. Yarnangu are engaged for each biodiversity survey to advise of their cultural heritage practices, of Nico’s exclusions from significant heritage areas, and of traditional and current uses of plants and animals.
